So I guess it’s my turn to talk about things. As said before, we’ve been getting into the mode of practicing and writing songs again. Creativity tends to come in bursts, and lately we’ve had a cluster of ideas that are quickly forming into song planetesimals. The last 20% of songs tend to take 80% of the time to write though. I had some struggle with getting the bridge and neck set up properly on my new guitar, but I think I have it mostly squared away, and playing it is FUN. It fits like a glove, and sounds great with my overdrive pedals and amp. Cord’s new bass sounds pretty awesome too. I can’t wait to play some loud rock shows with our new and improved tones. Speaking of, we have a show scheduled at Ash Street Pub around the beginning of March (9th to be exact). We’re playing with a rad band from California called Bright Light Fever, our buds in Fuck Paris, and another act called John Klemmensen & The Party. That gives us a month or so to do our rock and roll calisthenics.
We’ll get back to recording soon. I think we just needed a little break from it. Being in a band is sometimes like that magic act where the guy spins different plates on tall poles. He’s got to constantly attend to different plates to keep them all up. To much attention to one, and another falls. I think we just needed to switch plates for a sec.
Recording: All the instrumentals are complete. Vocals are much feared, but must be dealt with. We’ve started rehearsing again, picking up where we left off, etc, and so the singing should thaw out soon.
Meanwhile, I’m in the midst of reading Slash’s autobiography. It’s easily as enjoyable as Motley Crue’s, but also about as well written. Moderately recommended (unless you enjoy reading about debauchery and how incomprhensible Axl is, in which case, it’s awesome!)
As may have been aluded to in previous posts, I have alot of trouble with recording. Somehow, knowing that a take is for posterity ensures fumbling, sloppiness, and brainfreezes-and-farts galore. I have taken an absurdly long time to complete bass tracking, although it should be noted that during this period I travelled home for the holidays and also lost my job. The second thing should ideally offer me more time with which to git ‘er done, but my laptop can’t quite manage, and moreover everything is set-up on Greg’s more ample Mbox and Pro Tools 8, which is ever so slightly over my head, if only for lack of exposure. Also, it’s much different chasing a click track while hearing two other instruments attempt to chase it as well…the most “on” songs seem to be the ones we didn’t play with a metronome.
ANYWAAAYY I hope to finish up soon, so we can move on to vox and finish some stuff up. We’re also planning a return to the stage (or the floor, as the case may be) in the not-too-distant future.
